1) They never got around to looking at it
2) They looked at it, liked it, but never got around to telling you
3) They looked at it, didn’t like it, but never got around to telling you
4) They looked at it, didn’t like it, but didn’t want to tell you this so they never responded
5) They never wanted to look at it and so just never bothered
Scenario #1 is pretty straightforward – sometimes we get caught up in the minutiae of day-to-day existence and either don’t have time to do everything we want, or it gets pushed aside in favor of more immediate concerns.
Scenarios #2 and #3 are sort of an extension of #1, in that whether they liked it or not they did manage to look at your creation, but got too busy or just forgot to respond to you about it.
Scenarios #4 and #5 are a little different. #5 insinuates they never cared about your creation in the first place, which begs the question why do you even consider them a friend. But #4 shows that they did care enough to look, AND were considerate enough to not tell you their honest opinion, probably because they didn’t want to hurt your feelings.
Now let me ask you another question: is the one who does scenario #4 a bad person?
I suppose the answer to that question depends on the individuals involved. Perhaps the sender of the link is a high-strung individual that can’t take criticism, and telling them something negative about their creation (even if tacitly done) is liable to set off a small nuclear device in their head and cause them to freak out and rant and rave about how bad a person the recipient of the link is just because they didn’t like their creation. It’s been known to happen. I would certainly want to avoid that kind of situation.
However, I would also think that after an entire year of silence on the topic, the one who sent the link would have realized the other one simply didn’t like it. I mean, if they really liked it, wouldn’t they have found the time to say so? Not responding for an entire year (!!) would apparently support that. The saying “If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all” would seem to have been applied in this case. What do you think?
