Appearance – round but not very tall, about 2.75”H, very dark red skin with some orange and yellow mottling, flesh is whitish green.
Taste – Well, these were the cheapest apples I’ve found so far and now I know why! In a word – blech. They’re extremely soft, even more so than the Golden Delicious, they have a really mealy feel and are very dry. The flavor is slightly tart but that’s about it, not unpleasant but not very good, either. They brown fairly quickly. This is another apple I just couldn’t finish; I got about 1/3 of the way through and gave up. A lot of online chatter about these apples says they’re good for cooking, esp. if making applesauce, which is easily understood as they're so soft.
