Appearance – on the small size, not quite 2.5” H. Yellow with speckled stripes of tan.
Taste – A definitely tart apple, but this one has a pear-ish undertone that makes it tasty. Thankfully, the tartness is not overwhelming like the Granny Smith. It inches towards the softer end of the hard/soft spectrum so I’m not sure this would hold up well for baking. Browns a little too fast for me, so if you do use it while cooking, do so quickly after cutting.
Proudly advertised as a Pennsylvania apple!! All the descriptions I’ve read on this have absolutely no mention of the tan speckling, so that may just be a local thing. Saw it in two different stores and they looked exactly the same.
