Jano’s, 732 Burmont Rd, www.janospizza.com
Special offered: two large cheese pizzas $15.50, toppings are extra but price not specified, total for one cheese and one pepperoni: $18.55
Crust: The slices were slightly floppy but that may be due to the large size of the pie. It was also on the thicker side so the slices held up well once you got past the end point. On the down side it was overdone and a bit burnt in spots, which made it really tough and chewy.
Sauce: This had a good flavor and wasn’t too heavy with the spices. The amount of sauce was light in the middle and heavier on the outside but that was good; the cheese didn’t slide off with the first bite.
Cheese: Very good, cooked well and evenly distributed over the whole pie.
Pepperoni: These were spicy but not fire-breathingly spicy, and it was offset by the ample crust, so they didn’t overwhelm the taste buds.
First, we have a couple of notes: there were no “small” or 10” pies, and the large deal that was offered is good on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday only. It was actually cheaper to buy the large deal, plus we had pizza for a couple of extra days. Good thing we liked it! Yes, these pizzas were a huge improvement over last week!
This is Kevin’s favorite pizza joint at the moment, and he’s mentioned that there are two guys at Jano’s that make the pies, and the crust is different with each cook. It would seem that on the day we bought these pies we got the lesser of the two. Oh well. It’s still a big improvement over Drexel Hill Pizza. The only other downer apart from the overdone crust was that the pepperoni pie was extremely greasy! I had to pat it w/paper towels before taking a bite or I’d have ended up with grease literally everywhere. This may also be due to the size of the pie, so we’re willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
